I just got a new Bushmaster 20" HBAR, and I have noticed that it has quite a bit more slop between the upper and lower then my Colt HBAR had, which had almost no slop at all. Question is, Is this really a big issue as far as accuracy? Or is it something not to be worried about? I know they make those wedges to take out the slop.

Never mind the play. SOP for an AR15/M16.
Doesn't affect accuracy at all.

My understanding as that a real tight fit might actually accelerate wear.

Thanks for the answers. Thinking back to my Army days, I do remember my well worn M203 having a tremendous amount of slop, and it never had a problem hitting a 300m target.

That's a new one, a proper tight fit might accelerate wear? Where in the world did that come from, a maker who can't make it to spec? The upper and lower receivers are not moving parts, hence wear doesn't, can't occure.

There is a little buffer type thing I forget what the hell it is called but it is made to go into the lower and help tighten up the upper/lower fit. I think they are only a few bucks...

I thought the accuwedge ws over-rated , didn't really work for me. I just learned to live with the slop.

Weird, Bushmaster used to be known for thier unusually tight fitting receivers. The fit on my first Bushy was very tight, matter of fact it was a pain in the ass seperating receivers for cleaning until I a had a few hundred rounds thru the rifle.

If this is a brand spankin' new rifle I'd call Bushmaster about it. I bet they'll fix it up for ya for $0.00 I put an accuwedge in one of my rifles and I'm happy with the results. Time will tell if it makes the problem worse as is the opinion of some here.
