| I just got a Daewoo K2. Anyone have any info about the gas system? How does it work? What do the markings (O, S, M, L)stand for? |
| The daewoo k-2 is a GREAT rifle...built by the Koreans to improve cold weather functionality. The gas system is essentially a FAL system reworked to function on an AR Lower. It is very well made, and at one tiem even the US was considering converting our M-16's to the daewoo system. It passed all the tests with flying colors, but was not cost effective in a post cold war world. Parts are scarce, but they are rugged and extremely accurate...so shoot yours and remember it is collectable. |

Who told you that? At the end of the Cold War the military was going through the ACR competition, Styer, Colt, H&K and a few others were tested, but I don't think Daewoo or a modified M16 with Daewoo upper was tested. |

I have three DR-200's and I them better than my AR15 and AK47. Set the gas setting to 'S'. That's more than enough gas. The 'M' medium setting really throws the brass far. The manual doesn't tell you this, but to remove the gas plug, rotate it so the arrow on the sight post points between the letter 'O' and 'S', or 'M' and 'L'. Do this after the recoil spring is removed. I also found out that you can get the safety to rotate 360, not just 180 in a rainbow pattern. With one good downward flick of my thumb I can switch from safe to fire. You could also replace the safety with an AR15 one. |
