Due to financial constraints, I will only be able to purchase one AR style rifle. I would like a flat top, chrome lined, and either new A1 or A2 stock. I can't decide between the dissipator or the 20". What would be the pros and cons for either rifle? I currently shoot long range (1000 yards) with an M21 and I am looking for something fun to shoot at short to intermediate ranges and something that my wife might even enjoy. I am having a hard time considering anything else but a 20" (damn that ammo oracle!!). The reason for the dissipator is that I really enjoy shooting iron sights and I like the idea of the protected barrel. Thank you! |
| Go with the A3 Bushmaster Dissipator. That way, you will have the longer sight radius coupled with a carbine barrel. You can use the iron sights on the detachable carry handle, but still have the option of mounting an optic on the flattop if you later desire to. |

I was going through this in my head for the last couple of days as well, very stressful.... Though I feel the Dissipator is pretty sexy I still can't help but feel that the A3 20" is the best choice between the 2. It looks sweeter, it packs more punch, and it's really not that much longer than 16" carbine. |

I'll vote for the Dissipator. I just don't like semi-auto guns with long barrels. Of course, with that said, if I ever move somewhere with a range longer than 100 yards I might look into a long-range upper for my AR. Remember, the great thing about the AR is that once you own the lower, you can mailorder any sort of upper you might want, usually much cheaper than what a local shop will charge you. |

Another Dissipator vote here - I've got three in that configuration, including my "truck gun"... It's a DPMS I built from parts. Cheap scope, cheap mount, M3 light, not a lot invested, so if the truck should be stolen with it inside it wouldn't be the end of the world (not that I'd be HAPPY about it...). |

Quoted: The 20 inch is very tempting as we have targets at 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1000 yards. Not to mention a lot of wide open spaces in the High Desert. With iron sights (and someone that knows more than me can weigh in here) I don't think you'll be able to tell the difference in the Dissy & the 20". Only way I'd go with a longer barrel is if I was floating it, scoping it, and even then I'd probably only be looking at the stainless 24" from Bushmaster. |
