A friend of mine suggested I get an ergo grip for my AR.  I held his and liked the way it felt better than the stock one I have on mine.  Any other suggestions for an inexpensive grip that is more comfortable?  Also,is the gapper something I should get or just put something else there in the space instead?  They are very inexpensive so I will probably get one.  Thank you and please excuse my ignorance,I haven't had my rifle long.

I've got an Ergo grip and love it.  It did seem like the change in grips opened up that little spot where the Gapper fits, and started chewing up my finger.  Might have had somthing to do with the change in grip angle as well.  It allmost requires the gapper, or somthing else in its place.  I don't know what else you would put there, though.  Fab somthing up?

I've only shot a couple ARs with anything different (that mine, or the A2 style):  The Hogue, with seems like a rubberized A2 style, and another grip I saw that was like the older HK guns (91,93,MP5).  It had a really nice contour, but was way to small for my hands.

Before the gapper came along, most people stuffed a foam earplug there to fill the space.  I bet many stilll do.  Its not as pretty, but it does the job.

Has anyone used the 1911 grip conversion?

I'll second MarineSniper's recommendations. I have both grips. The SPR is the best feeling grip I have used on an AR. It is not really suited for anything but a bench gun however because it's thumb shelf makes it suited for right handed use, or comfortable use anyway. The G27 is an improvement over the issue grip. It has finger grooves, which I like, others don't, and it is a little deeper front to back that fills the hand a bit better putting the trigger finger in a better position. The plug in the bottom of the grip that is supposed to facilitate storage in the grip is useless, well I guess you could put a pair of foam plugs in there and not have them push the plug out. I have never experienced the finger gouging effects of the open space of the trigger guard so I don't have a use for the gapper.

I still like the Hogue overmolded grip. It comes in black, & OD green.

After seeing and feeling an ergo grip on an American Spirit Arms AR-15 at the Shot Show in New Orleans a few years ago, I just had to have one.  I finally got one about two years ago.  It feels great, and looks even cooler.

I plan to order an Ergo Grip w/ a Gapper and a Tango Down Battle Grip.  I will just alternate between my standard A2 grip and these two and decide which I like best.

I have Sierra Precision Grips on all mine.  Try to find one to hold, and I'll bet you'll like it

Thank you all for your advice.  I have just ordered an ergo grip and a gapper froma guy on ebay.  Both items are new and they were $20.00 including shipping.  That dilemma is solved but I'm sure others will arise.  Thanks
