Just purchased a Bushmaster Varminter. Absolutely love the gun. The straightest shooting .223 I have ever owned or had the privilege to fire.

Now I am in the process of working up a load for the gun. I have fired 45, 55 and 63 grain bullets. It seams to like the heavier grain bullets.

I was wondering if anyone else is or has worked up a load for the Varminter. It has the 24” stainless steal barrel with a 1 in 9 twist.

Does anyone have any cold weather tricks for AR’s? Or noticed a difference in performance in sub-zero weather with their AR’s?

Thanks

I've been using the Black Hills 68 grain BTJHP with great success.
Sub MOA groups are now what I expect, not hope for.

Use a synthetic based lubricant like Break Free, TW25B or G96 in sub-zero weather to prevent the lube from congealing in the cold.

Avoid petrol based lubricants below freezing.  Stuff like hoppes, three in one and outers oil and especially WD-40 are a no-go in an AR, regardless of temp.

Try V-MAX 60 grain and 25 to 26 grains of Varget.

Don't know if it works at temps colder than 60F. Nobody goes outside at colder temperatures around here.
