Hey guys, first-time poster (and a newbie in general) here. I've got a pre-ban Bushmaster lower, and I'm gonna order a pre-ban Bushy upper for it. I'm leaning toward their 16" w/the Military S.I.R. forend setup. I have 3 questions regarding this rifle: 1) The "military" vs. "commercial" versions of the SIR? I know the military version of the SIR does away with the Delta Ring. Can this be added easily, somehow, if a guy ever wanted to convert back to the standard m-4 handguards, or would the front sight have to be removed to do so? Should I get the "commercial" version, and leave the Delta Ring in place, even though it doesn't look nearly as clean? 2) Regarding the ARMS #40 flip up rear sight (this is what I'm leaning toward - any thoughts would be appreciated), is there, in fact, a NEW model of this sight that allows it to be stowed with EITHER aperature flipped up? Also, is this sight mounted directly on the A-3 flattop, with the SIR ahead of it, or is it mounted directly on the SIR? 3) I've never seen a Redi-Mag in the flesh; but I think I want one, and have a couple of questions. First of all, is it a good thing? Secondly, how is it mounted? Is there any drilling/tapping of the aluminum lower required? Thanks in advance for and advice, guys. see ya |

[red]If you go with the M model you will have to remove your barrel assy to reinstall the Delta ring....[/red] 2) Regarding the ARMS #40 flip up rear sight (this is what I'm leaning toward - any thoughts would be appreciated), is there, in fact, a NEW model of this sight that allows it to be stowed with EITHER aperature flipped up? [red]Cant go wrong with the ARMS#40 One of if not the best BUIS out there now,..It will install behind the ARMS SIR...Couple models out there One with the large opening ready when open and now one with the Small opening ready when fliped up[/red] 3) I've never seen a Redi-Mag in the flesh; but I think I want one, and have a couple of questions. [red]Never used it...So I cant comment other than I dont care for it(extra wieght)[/red] Thanks in advance for and advice, guys. [red]No Prob and welcome...[/red] see ya |

You don't need to remove the front sight - you will need to remove the barrel to re-install the parts (not a big deal if you have the tools). [qutoe] Should I get the "commercial" version, and leave the Delta Ring in place, even though it doesn't look nearly as clean? First ones the Army Ranges tried were the 'commerical' units. The total weight difference is only an ounce or two IIRC. 2) Regarding the ARMS #40 flip up rear sight (this is what I'm leaning toward - any thoughts would be appreciated), is there, in fact, a NEW model of this sight that allows it to be stowed with EITHER aperature flipped up? Haven't heard of that model - they do have a new one that stows flatter. Ask Jack (3rdTK) about this he is up on the ARMS gear. Also, is this sight mounted directly on the A-3 flattop, with the SIR ahead of it, or is it mounted directly on the SIR? Mounted to the flattop. 3) I've never seen a Redi-Mag in the flesh; but I think I want one, No you don't. They add weight, change manupulation of the weapon (the Redimag covers some controls so you end up operating them differently). I don't like the weight - nor do I like the 'clunky' feel to the rifle. If you must have a second magazine I prefer adding it to the side of the stock. Or using one of the mag-cinch type setups (with both magazines top-side up). Secondly, how is it mounted? Is there any drilling/tapping of the aluminum lower required? Nope it's a 'clamp on' addition. |

I have installed both models of SIR (M and C) I can't afford one myself, but maybe someday. I would recommend the Commercial model. It is almost exactly the same for function. I called ARMS and asked them about the difference before I actually saw one. The guys question to me was: Are you going to install an M203, I said no. He said then there is no real difference. I asked him what the difference was with the M203. He said: to be honest, not really alot. After installing both on rifles, I see what he means. The only back up iron sight I can think of that will fold down with either apature is the GG&G MAD sight. Both apatures rotate on the same plane. |
