Has anyone here gone through the Army Rifle Qual test? I did it this weekend, did very poorly (i'm new at this.. *sniff*) but noticed something a bit odd - we were using m193 ammo through the m16a2s (no green tips, boxes read m193)... Is this usual? I thought we were going to use m855 ammo outta the m16a2s and found it kinda odd.. in the end hardly anybody hit anything out at 300m...could it be the ammo? hehe in the end we were all taking each others targets.. so one lucky guy got a 42 outta 40! talk about teamwork... :) |

Quoted: That wasn't your fault. 55gr. ammo will not stabilize in a 1:7 twist barrel. In fact, it is limited for use only in 'operational emergencies.' The rounds will keyhole by the 150 yard line, possibly sooner. Not, I have shot M193 on the B mod qual course out to 300 meters before in a M16A2. The M16A2 can shoot M193 all the way out to the max range of the projectile. Its the M16A1 that can not shoot the M855 out beyond 100ms. |

www.ammo-oracle.com M16s & M16A1s have a 1:12 twist, and can fire 55gr projectiles max. M16A2s and M4s have a 1:7 twist, and can fire projectiles up to 100gr, and generally have no problem with projectiles as light as 50gr. -Troy |
