so thats a yes? i have a bushy m4 that comes to 16" total- so would that mean that it is a 14.5 barrel cause of the brake?

I do it with an 11.5"/5.5" flash...Hitting a 6"x8" metal plate at 200m. Pretty consistently. Offhand/iron sights... John

i have a few questions-

1. my 14.5" barrel has a brake on it to make it 16", does that mean that i have a 14.5 barrel or a 16"?does the brake count as a section of the barrel?

2.how many fps can my barrel get up to?

3. How far could my rifle be accurate if i use a high power scope bipod etc?

thanks

1.  For legal length purposes it would be 16".  For ballistic purposes 14.5"

2&3.  Within the past few days there has been a lengthly discussion of ballistics & barrel length.  Can't point you two it, but you should still be able to find it with the search routine.

As a general statement some people maintain that barrel length vs accuracy is somewhat overstated, ballistically speaking.  That is, the primary factor is sight radius and not ballistics.  Regardless, IMHO if you want to routinely engage targets further out than 200 yrds then you should be looking at a longer barrel with a scope.  A scope mounted to a CAR length weapon, at least to me, sort of defeats it's desgn purpose.

first of all, nice shot.
im looking for something to put out at about the same distance to shoot at that i can hear.  i thought about a hub cap but i think it would just penetrate. where can i get a big hunk of steel?

Barrel length affects velocity, not accuracy. ammo-oracle.com

If the brake is permanently mounted it counts as a 16" barrel for LEGAL purposes.  Ballistics wise its still a 14.5" barrel.

What ammo are you using?  (brand & model #)

I've used a similar setup.  With a cheap 4x scope, bipod (Harris works best), and Winchester Q3131A I've been able to consistantly hit man sized targets to 500M (about 19" and 40" tall).

Absolutely, I was plinking man sized metal plates at 400 yards with an Aimpoint.
