| I just bought a Colt Sporter H-Bar, which has serial # MH-013xxx. I understand this to be a preban lower. Why would it be shipped with a post-ban upper? |
| Guys, thanks much for the replies. It doesn't have a bayo lug and the flash is actually one of those soldered on compensators that resemble the birdcage style with no slots in the bottom. I haven't checked for sure yet, but I would guess that there are no barrel threads for that compensator. |

The 2 bottom slots are not cut so dust doesn't rise when firing from prone. That may be a peel washer and not solder. |
| Yea, you guys are probably correct. I'm not familiar with the a2. I always thought they plugged up those holes to get around the technicalities of the flash suppressor. I feel better about the purchase. I got it for $1200 which seemed like a good deal for a preban. Thanks for the help! |
| Just one more question about this deal, I noticed that I can't load more than five rounds in the Colt 20 rd. mag., that came with the gun. I took the mag apart and found a "U" shaped piece of metal about 3" tall. I think this prevents the mag from taking any more rounds. Is this one of those post ban mags that you aren't supposed to put any more than 10 rds? I didn't see any markings to that effect, so how would you be able to tell? I always heard that post ban mags were supposed to be marked. Is illegal to remove that metal restriction? Thanks! |

Colt shipped most guns with one 20-round mag and one 20-blocked-to-5-round mag. Many states restrict hunting guns to 5 rounds, and Colt was doing everything they could do to make it seem that they were selling "friendly hunting rifles", not "evil, baby-killing 'assault rifles'". It's legal to remove the block, and the blocks themselves are sought-after items from folks who want to hunt with their rifle. You could sell it on the EE. -Troy |

Mine came with a 20 rounder blocked to 5 and the floor plate was pop riveted. I drilled the rivet out and removed the block the day I got it, well before '94. If it was blocked before, during and after the ban took place, it was not a high cap. Unless it was removed before September 13, 1994, it would be illegal to do so now, wouldn't it? I'l add I'm no legal mag. Nazi. I'ld say in private do it and let the ATF try to prove otherwise but.... |
