Why such a big deal breaking in the barrel? I just bought a new Bushy Varminter (Shoots awsome). I'm still breaking it in, exactly like bushy recommends, why is it so important to do this? Why is cooper fouling on the first 60 shot worse than on the 1000th shot? Thanks, Mark |

On no other weapon I've ever seen or owned are there instuctions for "breaking in" a barrel. Only on non Colt ARs; and I'm durned if I know why. The only answer I can come up with, and this is pure speculation, is that todays AR barrels are so poorly finished off that the factory wants you to do the final polishing of the rifled bore by slowly shooting rounds thru it for a while. The thing is, all the Bushie barrels (except the match types) are chrome lined, and should have been electropolished before the plating was applied. Like I say, it's purely a guess on my part. I can understand doing it with a match type rifle, but for the average AR, it does seem like a waste of time. |
