| OK, I'm fairly new to this, rifle shooting that is, but I picked up an AR a few months ago. I took it apart and cleaned it and reassembled it, and I even double checked for left over parts because of that scary warning, "it will shoot and it will blow up"! Anyway, I survived all that 'getting aquainted' stuff and now, thanks to this site, I know about the "light lube" and the "generous lube" areas. So the last time I cleaned it, I did all that light and generous lubing per the book ... I think! I went out today and set up for the first shot, with my nose just brushing the charging handle, and squeezed. After that first shot went off, I noticed that the right lens of my glasses had oil all over it. After cleaning my glasses, all the other shots were fine. Is that normal? |
| After a 200 round break in I use light lube everywhere. The rifle will function just fine. If the gas blowing in your eye is too big a problem they have a method for caulkiong the charging handle or you can buy a PRI charging handle which will divert the gasses from your eye. |

Man that's the fun about it! Blasting away, smoke billowing, Break Free flying out of your rifle!!! Just kidding. It's normal for the excess lube to spray out. In basic training during the 80's the Drill Sgt.'s would walk up and down the firing line with spray bottles of CLP, squirting down the bolts of our rifles! Did a night fire once with our M60 and Starlight scope, couldn't see the targets for the first 100 rounds from all the smoke!!! |
