Big holes towards receiver or the shoulder?

Why?

I don't have the right tool yet, but want to know in advance.

Thanks!

From the  *pictures*  that I've seen, the cuts ( big holes?) are against the receiver. I have been thinking of one for my tele-stock. I'll look for a picture and link it later.

Ah, is this some kind of improved locking nut for the tele-stock?  Maybe one you can use the barrel wrench on?

Toward the shoulder - to make it easier to get the wrench on/off and provide a more even presure around the plate.  It interesting to note the orientation is not mentioned in the -23 so it might not really matter.  If you were to put the holes toward the receiver it would be easier to stake the nut in place.

For those of you going 'huh'?  He is asking about the orientation of the nut that holds the receiver end plate to against the receiver on the Tele-stocks.  It also locks the telestock in place so it won't unscrew.

Someone else mentioned the idea to "stake" the nut to the plate, but it sounded kind of permanent.  What is the process to "stake" it?

BTW, I posted the thread hoping those who KNEW what a "castle nut" was would reply [:D]

I opened the thread because I thought you were someone that likes castles...  I was ready for some cool picture of you peering out of the gun tower of an old stone castle with your AR.  [peep] Oh well.

Gadzooks!...Hold Knave! Vouchsafe that thou goest to where thou doth not belongeth!  If thous speaketh against the King of Tennessee (Tom Jefferson), thou wouldst forsake his Highness and so be banished from the kingdom forever.

I am in good graces with "his Highness".  I showed him where my favorite shooting spot is. :)

I'm beginning to worry about you Andy.  I think if you use that English lisp too much it just may stick! Just don't let anyone slap you on the back!  Remember the girl making the ugly face! [:D]

Oh, yes, David is a true knight of the realm and for the honor of knowing his favorite shooting spot, I will bestow him the honor of shooting an AR from a boat in the Kings Realm.

Wow, ya'll sure hijacked this thread with your Ren-fest babble.  "Castle nut," hehehe, I could see that being misinterpreted.

Anyone have information on "staking" this in place?

Thanks!

Square staking punch and a mallet.  Not really necessary if it's tightened down.  Colt does it as added insurance, and covers the scarring with some sort of grey paint.
