I made a trip to the range to fire my new Colt MT6601C. The rifle is very accurate. I was able to shoot 1.5" groups offhand at 50 yards. There were a few problems that I hope all of you can help me with.

1 I fired 100 rounds and had a double feed jam 3 times. I feel that this may be a problem with the magazine. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

2 The trigger is not consistant from shot to shot. Can anyone suggest a replacement?

3 The buffer spring makes a nice "twang" on firing. Is there anyway to make it more quiet?

Thank You in advance.

Double feed is a magazine problem. Did you notice if it is from the right or left side of the magazine? If you carefully compare the offending magazine feed lips with a good one you may be able to see a difference. Use a piece of wood and a mallet to make small adjustments to the feed lips. Generally you want to close them a tiny amount.

Actually before hammering them, make sure the follower is moving freely.

Trigger: If you have never done it yourself, take it to a gunsmith. May just be a metal chip or grit otherwise about two to 4 passes on a stone will improve it greatly.

If you weren’t in physical contact with the stock I think you will find it is silent to everyone else. The “noise” is conducted through your cheekbone to your ear.

I have done work on other firearms I own so I will take a close look at the trigger assembly and see if stone and polish will improve the situation.

The 'sproing' sound of the buffer/action spring is the sound of a happy AR, it's perfectly normal.

Get a mag; get several. If they all work except that one, throw the bad one away. Or sell it on eBay.

If you can't make the trigger work the way you want it is easily replaced. There are several good Match triggers.

You will get used to the "twang".

All of the info you need is on this site. Look around.

Make sure you are using USGI magazines!!!!!!  ALL OTHERS ARE CRAP!!!!!   (except some of the factory 10 rounders)   You can find pics of what USGI's look like here on AR15.com if you look.

As stated above, the "sPRoiNg!" is quite normal.

Are the magazines sold by Bushmaster any good?

I have tried Bushmaster magazines (30 round) in my Colt AR15s and have had nothing but failure to feed problems.
I have had no problems with Colt magazines 30,20,9 round or Thermold magazines 30 round.

I too had problems with my Colt, but much worse.  I couldn't make it through a magazine without a double feed.  I tried different magazines without success so I sent it back and was told the head spacing was off and received a new rifle.  I have fired 500 rounds through this one without even 1 malfunction.  Just something to consider

Sounds like a magazine problem to me also.

Throw away the 10-rounder and get some USGI mags.

The trigger might break in by itself, but if it doesn't a tune-up may be in order. It probably won't take much polishing.

I read somewhere that grease applied to the buttstock spring will eliminate the twang.  Anyone?

I think adding greese may cause malfunctions.

[smartass] The only way to eliminate the sound of the buffer/action spring is to sell your AR and get a bolt action rifle.  That's how it was designed and built... [/smartass]  [;)]

Grease isn't recommended.  Follow the lube guidelines in the -10 and enjoy your rifle...
