I picked up my first AR on Friday.  It's a Bushmaster 20" A2.  I was going to buy an A3 but they were out of stock.  Not really a big deal since I'm not big on optics and plan to do some CMP competition.  I was told that the A3 is not CMP legal anyway.

The funny thing is that as a kid I was always into collecting military stuff.  I had uniforms from all over the world including US uniforms dating back to 1903, bayonets, knives, patches, helmets, medals and so on.  You name it and I bought it at garage sales and Army/Navy stores all over.  I remember one day going to a local surplus store and the guy had M-16 magazines for $3.00 ea or two for $5.00.  I only had the five bucks so I bought two and put them in a closet never to be seen again.  23 years later I'm married and have a beautiful 9-month-old daughter...and two brand new Adventure Line 30 rd magazines that I bought 23 years ago.  So I guess it pays to be a pack rat after all.  Must have been destiny that made me buy my first AR-15 accessory 23 years before I bought the rifle…

Ps.  it did take me two days of digging around in the attic to find them.  At the moment it was like hitting Mega-Millions.  I checked back into reality though and realize that …now I have to go buy some green followers.

Congratulations on your new rifle. I wish I could go back in time and buy like 100 of those mags for only 5 bucks for 2 of them. Green followers are a must.

Congrats on the new rifle, and the new baby! [beer] Black rifles and parenting can be very enjoying, as well as frustrating at times. [:D]

I just hope you know that two mags is never enough. [;)]

I don't know which one will be more expensive to keep well-fed, your 9 month-old daughter, or your new baby...

Good luck (and enjoy!) with your babies!

My first AR experience was much like yours. I went in looking for a M4gery Bushy and walked out with a 20" A2 instead. Cannot say that I have been disappointed at all. Love my A2. Granted, it's not the lightest gun around. But gives me the good old M16 vibe that I was craving. Next one will be an M4 profile though.

I've got my 16" A2 RRA upper on bushy lower.  This weekend @ a gun show some dealer was talking smack about bushmaster.  I just walked off.

I hope you enjoy your rifle.  Bushmaster is well respected, as is Rock River Arms and a few others out there.  Read around this board.  If a dealer's really trashing someone's stuff, I suggest walking away.  We all have our favs but dealers should remain professional.

You have a fine firearm which will likely serve you until your two-legged baby's ready to shoot your magazine fed one - and beyond.
