| New to forum. Does anyone have experience with the AR-10 in 243 caliber that they could share with me. |

Quoted: Please pardon me for saying so but IMO these are a total waste of $$$$. Unlike .223 or .308, .243 cannot be bought cheaply as mil-surp or simply cheaply. Unless you want to deer hunt with it, I see no ballistic advantage over the .223cal. BobCole and I differ in our views. I see many significant ballistic advantages of the .243 over the .223 in terms of velocity, Energy, and trajectory. His criteria from judging ballistic advantage are different than mine, I see. We agree .223 and .308 (or in military metrics if you prefer) are cheap, and also ( think) that .243 can be a tremendous deer (or deer-sized animal) round. Not sure for what you intend to use the AR, but if it is, in fact, for hunting deer, then, from my experience, the weakness of the setup would not be in the ammunition. Many people, when making an ammo decision, don't place the highest emphasis on the price difference, of course, and tend choose new, factory (or custom made, or reloaded) ammunition for their firearms over the second-hand surplus "seconds" that are ubiquitous on the market. I'm neither a big fan nor active buyer of surplus ammo. I guess that I've assumed that your question is part of research that may lead to the purchase of an AR10. If you find the opportunity, no matter what your decision, then could you please share here what you've learned in this process? If you buy the gun, then do share a report. Thanks, IMHO IMHO |

I would be interested in seeing/hearing how the .243 is much better than the .223 with regards to trajectory? As for buying mil-surp, what can I say? I'm poor. >gg< |
