Hi all, I was looking on putting a 4x scope on my AR, nothing fancy, just a sight enhancement and I came across this item. http://www.tapco.com/product_information.asp?number=OPT0900&back=yes&dept=194&last=21 I would like to know if anyone has used it before on an AR. It reminds me of a colt scope that onetime I saw..Any input will be greatly appreciated. |

Well its good & bad. Good because its cheap, and if you like it then you know to start looking for the real-deal Colt Scope. Its also good because you can use you iron sights AND it sits low enough that you really don't need an extended cheek piece. Its bad because the optics are mediocre at best, the screws holding the tube to the mount tend to back out when firing (LocTite these BEFORE your first range session), adjustments are neither linear nor discrete. A good scope to try out the Colt Scope concept - if you like it then step up to the real-deal. If not then your only out $30-$40 bucks. |

I really like the BDC type scope you are looking to get. I found the 3x Colt Scope to be perfect for me. I set it up for twenty yards and then fifty yards. I found were the point of impact was perfect and placed a small white and a small red dot on the turret. Then when I go to a range were I shoot 100 yards I simple put it to 1 and when I shoot 200 yards I put it on 2 and so on. There is an out door range down the street from me and it's 50 yards I just simple put it on the small white dot I made. When I go to my cabin the lake is exactly 25 yards from my door I put it on the small red dot. The best bet for you is to find a Colt 3x or 4x scope. Tasco was making the 3x scope for Colt and c-more was making the 4x lighted reticule. They also make a 4x not lighted scope. The leapers is a little cheap and I don't know how well it will hold a zero. My scope has been on my carrying handle for three years and it's my cabin rifle. It still has a perfect zero. Look around and see if you can find one for sale. I got my 3X Colt Scope for $100 LIB, it's been performing perfect. Then lens is perfect. I took my friend who is a professional photographer and he looked at a bunch of scopes for me. He took a look at the Colt 3X and was impressed with the clarity. I like it because I can still use it in doors and I can use it for a little extra power out to hundred yards. It really shines when using it at a hundred yards. At 200 yards it not enough, but better then nothing. At 50 yards it just make shoo-in to easy. |

Ya thats not a bad idea. That way if you don't like it you will not wast your money. The only problem I had was getting proper cheek well and eye position. I found a cheek rest made out of plastic that attaches to the back of the butt stock. It worked perfect for me and is very stable. |
