Hope this isn't a dumb question but... I was wondering why there are no 20" barrels with the gas port in the same place as on 16" barrels. That way you could have the same handguard setup as with the 16" carbine, except the barrel would just be longer past the front sight. I would think it would function ok. Surely one of you experts have simple answer to this.  Thanks

For me the cosmetics of such a beast would be awful.

I think for it to function, you might have to change/modify some components, but I am not sure.  I say this because you are actually increasing the time that you are putting gas pressure through the gas port.  Maybe it wouldn't affect that at all?

Why shorten the sight radius and the barrel protection?  What would be the benefit?

Troy, the reason I ask, is I like the short handguards on the 16" carbine but would like the benefit and velocity of the 20" barrel. It just always seemed to me that the handguards on the regular A2 20" were too long. I guess it's just a personal looks type of thing. Thanks for the replies guys...
