I attended a show in Tucson last weekend and purchased 1 center industries corp. 30 rounder.
Idea was to take home and check function before
purchasing more. Having reviewed this and other sites on what to be on the lookout for I guess I am still unfamilar with how date is to be displayed. This mag had a 5/16" hole drilled through mag body where complete Cage # and date(?)might have been. If date is to be displayed as,xx/xx,
and all I can see is, 05/, and part of cage #, did I get scammed?

Yes and No. Yes because it sounds as if someone drilled a post 94 date out of the mag. No because if the mag isn't dated LEO/Gov. Use Only then it isn't really a post ban mag. I am assuming that this one was a Center mag? It is supposedly required that the mag be stamped with the LEO restriction as well as the date to be a restricted item.

#1 - why would you want to function check a USGI mag?  They are the best, just inspect the feedlips and such

#2 - I've drilled that hole myself in a mag.  A single hole like that just covers up a CAGE code.  It was a 6199, which I thought might be 6/99, so I panicked and drilled before thinking it through.

#3 - if it were a postban, it would be legalled required to have the full "for military or LEO use only" stamp, which is what, 1 1/2" long?  Lot's of holes to cover that up.

So I'd say the mag is fine, legal, preban.  Just check for signs of bondo filling in the warning and refinishing, though if they did that they would probably bondo in the date/CAGE code.

#1 I have acquired USGI mags that don't seem to function as well as others.
#2 That particular cage # is 6P199 is also on floorplate.
#3 No other stamp or attempt to cover any.

It was in a wrapper and was refinished, wiped down with gray paint.

Thanks for response

It is a Center Ind. mag with no other markings on body.

It isn't one that you have to worry about for the reasons I gave above. Someone did drill out the date though. If you are still worried just leave that one home when you go out shooting in public.
