I looking to buy the RRA M-4 Tactical next week for use on patrol duty. Thank God for income tax! My question is how does the M4 short solid stock shoulder? Can you see ok through the sights? I was wondering because it looks like your eye would be right on the sight, even worse I guess if you were really tall. Anyone who has one I would appreciate your wisdom. Thanks as always. Lee |

It is the same size of a collpasible stock fully closed. A lot of people use the collpasible stock in that position and have no problems. I am 6' tall and I use the closed position on my preban CAR. The shorter length of pull makes it faster to shoulder from the low ready position and makes control of the weapon easier. Any tactical use weapon should have a much shorter length of pull than a service rifle. The sights aren't that close to your eyes, but are obviously closer. Some people like to put there nose on the charging handle in the prone position, that is even closer than the entry stock will get you in a combat stance. If the stock is too short, there are a couple of otions for you. You can get a one inch spacer to fit between the receiver and the stock. you could get a 1 inch buttpad extender for the buttplate. You could even get and adjustable buttplate for the stock. The adjustment requires an allen wrench and is slow to adjust, so you would have to adjust it at the range to whre it works for you best. Still, it is more versatile than the 1 inch spacers. Just one question, if it is a duty gun, why can't you get a collapsible stock? Is it your department's policy? Or are you purchasing a personal weapon to use on duty? |

Thanks for the response Knightone, yep I am buying the rifle for use at work on dept letterhead, we recieve an uniform allowance paid to us, we buy what ever we need or want[:D]. Its good that everything I buy is mine and it allows the deputy to buy what weapon he feels comfotable with. I want the post-ban version for obvious reasons, when and if I ever get out of law enforcement. I am looking for a small rifle that I can keep in the front seat area of my patrol car. Shotguns have their place in a department but... I work in a small county and everyone seems to have a hunting rifle! Thats not bad but.. it is if your a LEO and have to face someone with a scoped 30.30 or 30.06 etc. I much prefer a AR. Thanks Again. Lee |

I have one on my wife's AR. I shoot fine with it. Very compact, no rough edges to snag on stuff(unlike the car stock). If you are wearing body armor, works perfect. Where do you find the extendable butt plates? I have been meaning to pick one up and play with it. Thanks. |

Fulton Armory and J&T should both have the adjustable buttplates. That is where I have seen them. J&T offers the short entry stock with the adjustable buttplate already installed as an option for some of their kits. It is a good idea and as close as we can get to a collapsible stock until the ban expires. I don't use body armor much, but I usually use a tactical vest. That is when I most often use the collpasible stock on my preban and I use it all the way closed. For me, a stock that size works like a dream and I am a pretty big guy. It all depends on your taste, but there are many ways to get the shorty stock to your liking, so don't be afraid to give it a try. |
