This is an update on the progress of the issue I initially detailed in this post: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=147459&w=searchPop I subsequently sent the upper back to my dealer to allow his Colt authorized gunsmith to observe the barrel. The consensus at the time was that the barrel nut needed to be properly torqued. I received an update from my dealer this afternoon and he informed me that his gunsmith, after both inspecting the barrel and the upper receiver, stated that the face of the receiver (where it mates with the barrel) is not perfectly flat - off by some 2/1000ths of an inch - thus causing the rotational play in the barrel as explained above. The gunsmith spoke to Colt who indicated that the receiver must be refaced by machining the uneven surface at their West Hartford, CT factory. (As an aside, I posted a question last night regarding "refluxing" - as I misinterpreted the message left by my dealer. The details of which are located in this thread: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=147855 My apologies for the confusion). My question is two fold: 01.) If the upper receiver were to be refaced as described, would it require that the entire upper receiver be refinished? Or is that surface bare aluminum already? This is an important detail because this is a pre-ban R6721DC finished in grey and is an absolute perfect color match to the pre-ban R6601 lower receiver that it is currently mounted on. If the upper must be refinished it will be finished in Colt's current factory finish - black. If that is the case, my dealer would rather keep the upper himself and refund to me the cost of the upper. 02.) With reference to the R6721DC units that Specialized Armament (or any other reputable Colt dealer) has for sale - are these finished in the current black or are they finished in the pre-ban grey? If the answer to question one is "yes", and the answer to question two is "grey", I would entertain getting a refund and purchasing a replacement upper from someone else. Otherwise I may just have settle for a complete refund. My dealer is a stand-up guy who provides excellent customer service and is willing to whatever it takes to make me happy. Thank you for taking the time to read through the details of this posting. Any information that you can provide is sincerely appreciated. |
