How does one determine the proper stock length to use? I see various options for stocks A1, A2, tactical, extended, etc and I have no clue which one I need. Any advice for a non-vest wearing Citizen?

Conventional wisdom is that that the A2 is better for bench/prone target shooting than the A1, but is too long for general purpose use.  Thus the A1 is "best" for most people, most of the time.

I've only shot the A2 and have no problems with it, but I'm going to put an A1 length from Cavalry Arms on the next lower to see if it works better for me.

I agree with Mike - generally the best all around stock is the A1.

If you are interested in checking out the options here is a list of available stocks, their length and weight:

Try them all if you can and decide what you like the best. Everybodys different. I personally like the shorter stocked guns, the A1 is good for me, as is the standard AK stock.
