I am out to buy my first AR, so far I have narrowed it down to the Bushy Varminter and the DPMS 24 Special. Currently I am having a tough time deciding and any feedback would help. One thing that I also need clarification on is the possibility of getting the AR with a 1-8 twist over the 1-9. It has been a while sence I did any comparison. Looking to achive the best accuracy I can for target/varmint gun.
you'll probably be happy with either one of them because they are both great companies. I have a DPMS and have never had one jam/misfire/flaw it works great! Also a buddy of mine has a bushmaster varmiter and they are awesome. They look sweet and it's kind of nice because it has a heavy barrell instead of a bull barrel, Cuts down on the weight.
I got a DPMS and absolutely love it. It really is a great rifle. More acurate than i am even. However, the bushmasters are equally as good without a doubt. id say which ever one you come across first buy it if the price is right. Some other company's u might check out are Olympic, Armalite, and Wilson Combat.
I would say go with the DPMS. Great rifles. Not saying Bushy's are bad, jus the last 4 or 5 I checked out at a couple different shops, the quality just didn't seem to be there. Nothing major, minor details, like the safety not positively engaging into safe or fire. It just seemed to kind of roll back and forth. DPMS receivers lock together tighter, and so on. But I would be happy with either one.
if i had to choose between the two i'd.....leave the store and go somewhere else and pick up a Rock River!!!!!!!!http://www.rockriverarms.com/rra_varmint.htmon the issue of twist: the faster rate of twist the heavier the bullet you use for the most part. my gun with a 1 in 8 loves 70 grain boat tails but hates the barnes 40 grainers
