OK I have a RRA postban w/A2 buttstock. I wanna install a postban telestock. I got the A2 stock off and it seems the buffer tube is loctited or something. As it is aluminum I will destroy it if I put a wrench on it and torque it off. I do want the option of replacing the A2 stock.

What is the best way to remove a postban buffer tube without destroying it?

You can carefully try to heat the tube with a torch to loosen the loctite, if that's what it is...

Other than heat, check to make sure they didn't do something silly, like stake the tube.

When I removed the fake telestock from my RRA (LEGP) it was on there TIGHT! Luckily I have one of the heavy duty stock wrenches or I wouldn't have ever gotten it off. I think RRA tightens them up a little too much.

Steyr,

Make sure you use a fixed wrench, and not an adjustable (like a Crescent wrench) for removing the buffer, or you'll probably end up rounding off the flats on the end of the tube.  If you have one of those Heavy Duty Armorer's wrenches, it will have a cutout, and the thick steel gives you a lot of surface area to apply pressure to.  Put the lower in a padded vice (not real tight) and you should get it off no problem.  If you REALLY aren't getting it off, it may have been Lock-Tited, in which case you WILL need to use heat.

Note that some [s]morons[/s] ignorant folks use RED (High-Strength) Lock-Tite on buffer tubes.  As the size of the screw interface increases, you're supposed to use lower grades of Lock-Tite because of all of the increased surface area.  On a buffer tube, RED is about 3 levels too high...
