To use the mil-dot reticle when attempting to estimate the range to your target, utilize this formula. Multiply the size (height or width) of your target, in either feet or meters, by 1,000. Divide that product by the size of your target in mils (One mil is equal to the distance between the center of a dot to another center of a dot in your reticle). The number you will come up with is the range to the target in feet/meters. Using this for a rangefinding scope is only effective, in my opinion, for range estimations that are +/-20m. It does take practice to learn to use them effectively. A great video that explains the process in detail is titled "SEAL Sniper" and can be purchased in Brigade Quartermaster's Catalog (www.actiongear.com). A rather good manual is TC 23-14 "Sniper Training and Employment" published for the Army. This can be found anywhere military manuals are sold. Believe me, if this answer isn't clear enough, someone on this site can explain it better than I can. Hope this helps and good luck! EDITED FOR TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS |

These can teach you how to use it : http://www.shooterready.com/lrs.html http://www.swfa.com/mildot/index.html And this is a BIG help in using it, once you know basically what you are doing: http://www.swfa.com/riflescopes/mildotmaster/index.html Check out the links, they should be very helpful, it's how I learned. Plus, check out the training area over at www.snipercountry.com , lots of good info over there on using the mildot too. |
| Get a Mildot master,it is a slide rule type unit and includes a good sized manual. It is a MUST for mildot use.Impact guns is also selling a shooting simulator for your computer using mildot scopes,it can be found in the .50bmg area of their websight.if you cannot find the Mildot master let me know and I will dig through my stuff and find where I got mine. |

567890:Anytime, and good shooting. Aimless: Yeah, I had his first video :"The Ultimate Sniper" (let a "friend" borrow it and never saw it or heard from him again!) and I really enjoyed it. It turned out to be a great aid with things like range estimation, ballistics, FFP selection, and especially ghillie construction for different types of terrain. Ghillie's are difficult without seeing them being done first, in my opinion. I haven't seen his second video yet, I think it's called "The Ultmate Sniper II", but I am not sure. John Plaster may even have a third video, from what I've heard in the rumor mill, but have not seen one. In my opinion, his first video is a great supplement to his book! Check out his website. Polyak: Thank you. I didn't know he had a website. EDITED FOR TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS |
