Hey Guys, got another question, are the plastic clips I am seeing for sale the way to go when I buy clips for my "new" gun? I owned an AR years ago and I am afraid I sold it. Now, the bug has bitten again but everything has changed so much and I really am out of the loop. Would it be better to spend the money on used Colt clips or are the new plastic clips better?
Thanks,
Mark

Prepare for the "clips" vs. "magazines" lesson.

edited to say;
buy U.S.G.I. surplus magazines, any manufacturer.

Sorry, sorry, I really am out of the loop! But still, are the aluminum magazines the way to go or are the plastic ones really better?
Thanks,
Mark

USGI aluminum are #1 preferred.

Thermold & Orlite plastic are acceptable.

Aftermarket of any style or brand are to be avoided at all costs.

I agree with "Mike L". The USGI mags are the most prefered and most reliable. With all the USGI mags avaliable, there is no reason to get any other aftermarket mag. Also Troy's Mag FAQ is an excellent resource.

As soon as I saw the title I figured someone was going say it.

The other members have hit the nail on the head as far as what the best magazines to use are.

From experience, I can tell you I traded out 12 "as new" thermolds (American made) for any type of USGI mag because the Thermolds failed me at a carbine course at blackwater.  Yes, finacially I took a hit, but better to have peace of mind that my mag won't fail me when I need them.  Of course this also being a hobby I still have some Thermolds, and will probably pick up some mastermold 20 rounders "just to have" (and an orange thermold if I can find one).
