JPC, You wont be disappointed. I was a little skeptical at first, I sighted in using military ball and was getting 2-3" groups. When I got it close, I went to my reloads and was consistently getting groups like the pic. I'm using 55 gr Ballistic Tips over Sierra's accuracy load of 25.1 grains of 4895. The average groups were 1/2 to 3/8 with the ever present flyer opening things up to a max of 3/4.(I was told by a target shooter that the worst thing you can do is look at your groups before your done, he's right, the flyers always seem to be the last shot or two, never the first two) I have a Leoupold 1.5x5 and a Harris bipod on it. Those groups were fired prone off the bipod. Haven't tried it with the irons yet. I'm looking forward to trying it somewhere other than the range, it gets pretty boring there. Thanks Black-Lions, if they open up to 1", I'll give you a call. :) |

OldTiger, I've shot both ways, bipod and sandbags. Never really saw any difference between the two. The bipod is a lot easier to carry around. I'm not uncomfortable slung in prone without the support, but its takes more out of you and the groups usually aren't as tight. I've been hearing more people are leaning towards shooting off a ruck and/or sandbags rather than a bipod. I'll have to give it another look. |
| I shoot off of a Delta rest with an old throw rug (orphaned at the range/adopted by me). The army taught when shooting the M16A1 not to use sling or bipod because the barrel could be "influenced" by both of them. I got out before the A2 came into use, so don't know about it. |
