I am a rookie on AR-15 type rifles and I would appreciate any advice. I have several rifles and handguns and I think I want to get a good overall .223. I want a good all around self defense, survival, hunting option that will be durable and accurate. When I go to the Bushmaster site there are a lot of different options in a .223. I will probably go with a KurtKustom rifle but I am looking for which rifle to have customized. I won't be doing any competition shooting but I want to have the accuracy. I would appreciate any recommendations. Money isn't too much of a concern since I will spend a few extra bucks to get a better product. Thanks in advance. MD |
| I recently bought a Bushmaster V Match with 20" barrel. Absolutely love the gun. I think the trigger is much better than it is given credit for. Now saying that I will possibly change it down the road but I thought it was going to be just plain horrible from the poor reviews they get on triggers. I highly doubt anyone could be dissapointed with the Vmatch. Will shoot as tight as your able to shoot. I am shooting 1/2-3/4" out of the box depending on the load I shoot. Currently am shooting a 50GR Nosler BT with Varget powder. Good luck! |

OK I will give my 2 cents. Get a 16" Shorty Heavy Barrel Flat top. Get Kurt to make it light weight under the handguards and cut it to 15" then add an A2 KKF comp. I have had 2 Bushmaster triggers one was OK the other was not so good. Id still get a new trigger. Accuracy Speaks is simple, reliable and the best single stage trigger you can get for a self defense AR15. You want an ACOG scope with BAC like a TA31 or TA11 on an ARMS 19A mount with a ARMS 40 rear. Go with either Colt M4 hand guards or the FF RAS system if you want to spend the bucks or add a flashlight/vertical grip later. Replace the grip with a Houge and a gapper and you are good to go. Load with 69 grain Black Hills match in USGI mags for the best combination of termianl ballistics and match grade accuracy. Basic, shortest, light weight, reliable, accurate, post ban Bushy. |
| Definitely go with the flat top. You might want to also look at the Dissipatormodel from Bushmaster. It has a 16 inch barrel and has the full sight radius of the 20" AR's. This will give you a slight advantage using iron sights. Cutting the barel is not something you have to do. I don't think the short A2 brake adds that much length, just over an inch. It's not that big a deal. I would just keep the barrel as is and not do any cutting. A gapper is both helpful and inexpensive. A more ergonomic grip would also help. Winchester Q3131A 55 grain FMJ is also a good round. It is the M193 round our military use to use. As far as optics or foregrip, that is sunjective. Try to find other people with different accessories and give them a feel before you decide. Remember, versatility and modularity is paramount in a combat rifle. |
