Is there an advantage of one style of stock over another? I was thinking of the collapsible and the full size stock buttstock.
I also seem to remember a buttstock that looked like the original but was shorter.
Is one more comfortable than the other or easier to mount to your shoulder than the other?
Thanks,
Jim

The original stock (A1) is about 1 inch shorter than the current stock (A2).

The newer short stock (like the RRA entry stock) is about the same length as a collapsed stock.  I haven't actually handled this one yet.

Your best bet is to try them out.  It really comes down to a matter of preference.  The only one that seems (to me) harder to mount on your shoulder is the collapsible stock.  I plan on trying a rubber buttpad to see if it helps but haven't gotten around to it yet.

BTW - welcome aboard!

I have an RRA entry stock and it is just too short use, at least for me.
I am not LE so I will not be using it for tactical puroses.
I like a collapsible stock for the simple reason of being able to store and transport the AR more easily.
As far as shooting, a collapsible stock is great (when collapsed) only when you are wearing body armor or Load Bearing Equipment.
When shooting - I prefer the collapsible stock to be in the extended position.

i'm 6'2" and i like the shorter A1 length, and sometimes set my "waffle" style collapsabel stock even shorter, tho not fully closed.

www.cavalryarms.com is producing a A1 stock with modern materials... and its available in colors.

i was never comfortable with the old, standard CAR stock... i had to scrunch to much to use it, but the "waffle" has the same size/height/angle to the butt as the A1 or A2.

My favorite (I'm 5'9") is the A1 stock using the A2 buttplate.  The A1 stock is 5/8" shorter than the A2 and it does make a difference.

With the RRA most people seem to like it with the 1" spacer from DPMS or KAC.  (I thought it was ok - at least it was then short enough so my 5' 2" wife could use the rifle more comfortably).

If you want a comparison of stocks I invite you to come on over to the Maryland AR-15 Shooters Site and check out our review of different stocks groups.msn.com/TheMarylandAR15ShootersSite/stocks.msnw

Thanks for the link!

I've been trying to determine the LOP on the RRA entry stock for my wife.

Anytime!  As you saw we have both the weight and length of stock.  With the RRA stock we also list some adjustments that can be done to it to extend it 1" (with a spacer), 2" (spacer & thick buttplate), or adjustable (adjustable butt plate).
