Went to the gun show today and aside from 2 20 round AR mags ($45/each, 0% finish), the only other AR stuff was a preban Colt 20" HBAR upper complete with bolt and charging handle for $700.00.  The upper had no bayo lug and no flash hider.  How can you tell if it really is a preban upper?

Did it have a threaded muzzle?  If there was muzzle brake on it you could've asked the seller to remove it to verify it wasn't silver soldered into place (or any other method). That kind of a price was way out of line unless it was a lg. pin flattop & included det. carry handle.

A2 handle, non threaded muzzle.  It had no break or flash hider.

Then it was a post-ban; even if brand new I wouldn't go more than $475.  Being a post-ban HBAR means there is good chance that only the chamber was chrome-lined.  I'd rather be spending my money on a Bushmaster or Armalite upper that was chrome-lined (or something else I truly wanted).
