DANG! will this guy ever go away?
Two more questions, one, are your varmint/target barreled uppers chambered for the .223Rem. sporting specs? (SAAMI I believe) or the 5.56 milspec chamber?  And two what is the definition of an "air gauged" barrel? Kinda like the question on the phone (what is a "high-riser" and why do I want one?).
I shall quit for a while!

We have all of our barrels chambered for 5.56 so that they will function when dirty and are not picky with ammo.  As far as air guaging goes, at one point in time I knew the answer to that question, but I'll have to go back and look that information up.  I'll get back to you with the answer on Monday.

Basicly an air guaged barrel is tested by using a blockage(don't know the term) in the barrel. Air is forced thru the barrel & the amount that gets past the plug is measured. The plug is then pulled thru the barrel & the amount of air getting by is continually measured. If the pressure rises above a determined point, the barrel has a loose spot & is rejected or used in a lower grade rifle. If the air satys at an even pressure all the way you have a very even barrel & it passes the test & is a good barrel. That said, the standards may or may not be different from one mfg to another. Douglas was the first to do this as far as I know. Other mfg's use this test now as well. I believe  Shaw uses it also.

Great!
Thanks guys for answers to both questions!
Hey I'm getting a swelled head here!
But I'll have to give it time to sink in!
I'm still trying to understand the difference between a barrel with cut rifling and a button rifled bore. I know cutting the riflings takes metal away from the barrel and driving a "button" down the barrel compresses the metal. It seems to me though button rifling would stress the barrel more with dense areas and low density areas. Still thinking.
