Jessie,

I'm curious your view on light weight barrels.  I know your Patrol Rifle is offered with a light weight barrel for obvious reasons, it's directed to the law inforcement market and those guys more than likely will carry a gun more than they will shoot it or at least we hope that's the case.  However, does one give up much in the way of accuracy, barrel life, etc by going from heavier M4 profile or heavy barrel carbines to light weight barreled ones?  For a target rifle a heavy barrel is no doubt the way to go, but for other purposes there doesn't seem to be any hard and fast rules.

We did some 14.5" LW guns for KSP SRT several years ago.  The only issue that they had with them was after one of the carbine classes they ran 3-5k rounds in 2 days, someone leaned their rifle against a table or something while the barrel was hot and the barrel bent a bit on them.  Accuracy was still good, but the point of impact shifted 3" to the left.  They brought it in for us to look at with the POA shift, when we discovered the bent barrel.

For initial shots, the accuracy is not going to be much different from an  M-4 or HBAR.  As the barrel heats up, the groups will open up as well.  Groups with the LW barrel will open up quicker than the others, since it heats up faster.

It's really just dependent on how you plan on using the rifle as to what compromises you want to go with.  If you expect to need to lay down suppressing fire, go with a HBAR, if you need to carry the rifle around, a LW barrel would be nice.

I hope that this helped clear the mud a bit.  If not, let me know and I'll try to go at it again.
