I dont know if this should go here but I bought a Double Star AR-15 from a gun show a month or two ago. I've only shot it a few times but noticed the recoil is loud compared to my brothers stag. Its a metal on metal sound that seems to me like it is the spring inside the buffer tube. Is this normal? Is there a way to quiet it down?
sorry if this should go somewhere else, I figured since it was a Double Star, I would try here first. E-mailing the company directly gets no response.

well, the spring inside the tube is supposed to compress and then push the bolt back forward. the tube is metal and so is the spring... so a springy sound is normal... as long as its not a grinding or horrible scraping noise odds are your rifle is making normal sounds.  is the sound different from most ARs or are you new to them?

Make sure your rifle is unloaded and remove your upper, hold the buffer while pushing down the buffer retaining pin.  remove the buffer and spring. make sure they are not defective and then shine a light down the tube to make sure that there isn't any foreign objects inside.  if everything looks fine then odds are you are ok. put everything back together

hope this helps

The Double Star may have a larger gas port hole than the Stag which would result in increased pressures during cycling?

If the buffer spring "sproing" bothers you, you can dip the recoil spring in a heavy weight oil, let it drip a minute then reinstall it.  That should deaden the sound you are hearing.

Thanks,

yes i am new to ARs but I have shot a Stag and a Rock River and they dont make the noise. I was just wondering if it was a normal sound on this model.

if it bothers me, I try putting the oil on it, thank you
