Bought some kits from you guys at the Knox show this weekend.  Got them together and the 20 inch A2's rear sight wiggles both back & forth and side to side.  Is this something I can fix?  Let me know.

Regards.

Update: it appears to be the ball and detent spring aren't working (or aren't there).  how do i take the rear sight apart to check and, hopefully, fix?

Does it pivot around the axis, or does it actually travel back and forth?  To take the rear sight out of the upper, first knock out the coil pin under the elevation knob, then take the rear sight all the way up and it will come out of the upper.

It pivots.

Is there any tension or does it just flop back and forth?  If there is tension but a bit of play, then that is normal.  Since there is only one ball bearing and spring, it only puts tension from one side, so if the detent hole is a bit on the deep side of the tolerance then it cants to one side, if its a bit on the shallow side then there is extra tension, so it cants to the other side.

If there is no tension, then it may be missing the ball bearing and/or spring.  If this is the case, you can either send the upper back to us to replace the spring and bearing or you can call us for a replacement and install them yourself, whichever you would prefer.

There's very little (almost no) tension.  I'll probably send it back to you guys to look at.  Messing with the upper scares me

No problem.  We'll take a look and get the problem taken care of for you.
