I may have a problem on my hands here.

i have a 16" carbine that i built from a JT kit.

i am cleaning my carbine right now, and i have it all stripped down.

i have the stripped upper in my hands and i am holding it in my hands.

i notice that when i hold the barrel and the upper reciever, i can rotate the barrel back and forth ever so slightly making a slight "clink" noise.

it only rotates a few thousandths of an inch but it definitely rotates.

i am holding only the barrel and only the reciever, nothing else. not the sight tower or hanguards or anything. the handguards are removed actually.

do i have a loose barrel or something?

shouldnt these two parts not budge at all?!

please help as i am afraid to fire my rifle like this

what should i do?

Are you saying that you have the barrel removed from the upper or just the handguards removed.  If this is so then that is normal to have a slight movement.  If you have not taken the upper apart, then something does not sound right.  If the latter is the case then I would like to see the upper to check everything out.

it is only the handguards removed.

it appears to me after further inspection that the only thing preventing the barrel from unscrewing further is the gas tube.

should i send it to you guys?

I'd like to take a look at it and see what is going on with it, it may need to be tightened further.  If you send it back to us and write on the package what it cost to return it I'll get you a refund for your shipping.

hey i have an idea about my loose barrel.

if the only problem i have is the barrel is loose, then all i need is a barrel wrench and a vice right?

how about instead of you guys eating the shipping and insurance on my upper,  i just buy a barrel wrench from you and you cover the shipping on that?  then i can re-set the barrel myself.  and maybe you guys could include a little dab of moly grease or whatever you use so i dont screw up the threads.

just an idea.

let me know.

If that's ok with you then that would be fine.  Just send me you order number through IM and I'll get that on its way to you.

just got the barrel wrench a few hours ago and went to work.

easy as cake.

i pounded out the gas tube roll pin in about 20 seconds, removed the gas tube, much less of a pain than i thought it would be, and then i put my barrel in a vice with an old belt wrapped around it and tightened the barrel up.  took me a little while to get the nut lined up so the gas tube would go through, but i got it all sorted out.

piece of cake.

havent shot her yet, but it worked just fine before, and i havent really changed anything, so i dont see why it wont work again.

ill post a range report later.  might be a while.  its like 10 degrees right now, yikes!
