With my nose to the charging handle I can't really see the tips of the claw on the small aperture. Is that how its supposed to be? I'm worried I won't get a repeatable sight alignment. thanks

Technically you shouldn't really be "seeing" your rear sight very well - it should be blurry. Your most important consideration when using fixed sights is making sure your front sight is clear and centered with your (admittedly blurry) rear.
