This will be my next purchase as soon as they're available. |

Seems like it would be kinda weird if they didn't offer a pinned-and-welded version of the M4A1 RIII, given that the original M4A1 (with the RIS II) is sold pinned-and-welded on the civilian market. |

Thanks for the info. I’m far from an expert on the ins-and-outs of every model of rifle DD offers. |

Regardless, just use a QD sling mount like the Magpul one of you're worried about it. |

@Marler5811 Joe, It is my understanding the RISIII will bolt directly to the RISII plate, so six screws to remove the II and install the III....is this correct? Is the FDE anodizing the same color? Thanks, Bronc |

The only caveat so far is that if you have a Factory RIS II M4A1 w/ pinned muzzle device, the M203 hangers don't clear so you have remove those first to get the RIS II off and they have to be removed from the RIS III to get it on. This can be done but it's a little tedious and most definitely requires a ball end allen wrench. S/F Joe |

Hate the idea of buying a new rifle just to have to send it off to have the factory muzzle device removed. |

A RIS lll FSB would be badass on a DD 11.5 barrel. |

Our current offerings will be a 9.5 (for 10.3" barrels), 10.5 (for 11.5" barrels), 12.5 (for 13.5" barrels or barrels with rifle length gas systems), and the 13.0 FSP (for 14.5" carbine barrels w/ FSBs). No other lengths have been determined at this time. S/F Joe |

Just brainstorming some ideas for some builds with these new RIII FSP rails... I know Blackout Defense makes a 13.9" barrel with carbine length gas system. This would look really nice with the 13" FSP rail. I would ideally like a 13.9" 4150 CMV, chrome-lined barrel with carbine gas system, but I haven't found anything so far. Seems like the best option is to get a Colt or DD barrel and have it cut down. There would be so many more possibilities if there was a RIII FSP rail with mid-length cutout... |

The previous unloaded weight of the DDM4a1 with "m4" profile barrel and RIS 2 rail was listed as - 6.74 lbs The new weight of that same configuration with the ambi lower and RIS 3 is listed as - 6.39 lbs .35 lb difference Seems like the new rail is taking off a lot of weight - especially if the new ambi components are also adding weight... What is the actual weight difference bewteen a 12.5" RIS 2 vs 3? |
| If they're thinking about retrofitting M4s or equiping new M4s, the carbine length fsp slot makes infinitely more sense. It may not necessarily be what the civilian market is clamoring for, but it would definitely be more useful if they think there is a military market with existing designs |

All of the U.S. SOCOM components that used to issue the RIS II FSP (e.g., the ODAs) have switched to either the standard RIS II non-FSP, or the URGI with the Geissele MK16 rail, neither of which has an FSP slot - and that's what the RIS III will be really be competing against in the future. The civilian market (i.e., mostly the SOPMOD Block II clone scene) is pretty much the only market left for the RIS II FSP at this point, so I'd venture a guess that the same applies to RIS III FSP. Granted, maybe some military export customers who want to buy new rails but not new barrels (or front sights) would also be a target sales demographic for the RIS III FSP. |
