This question pertains to the earlier M4 Rails. I was reading the installation instructions and it seems like a vise and vise block is recommended. I have neither at my disposal. I do have a armorer's wrench and spanner wrench as well as a dremel kit to cut off the original nut. Will I still be able to install the rails or is a vise absolutely necessary?

Thanks.

You really need a vice and vice block for removal of your old barrel nut and installation of the new one.

I wouldnt. Maybe it is possible it COULD be done without a vice in a pinch during the zombie apocalypse or some crap, but it's a bad idea. Spend $12.00 on a vice block and then ask someone to let you borrow their vice, otherwise you stand a very high likely hood of something slipping around and you running a dremel all up on your receiver. Just trust me. I have F'd up more expensive parts then I care to admit because I was trying to be cheap or impatient (or both, most the time). You will come out way ahead to spend a few more dollars and wait a few more days then and it be done right then to do it now anyway and jack something up. Better yet, buy a vice too. You'll be using it over and over for the rest of your life, so it's not an expense so much as an investment, lol.

If you're in Central Florida I'll let you use my vise to knock this job out, it's easy but you really need the right tools. If you're not in my area hit up the hometown forum and ask,
