I was looking at the RR web page today and came upon their LE Tactical upper with mid-range hand guards and tactical carry handle.  Here are my questions...and yes I did e-mail them to RR as well but wanted your thoughts too.

1.  Is it wise to marry an RR upper with a post-ban Bushmaster lower?  Is there any downside to this? *note I have told RR that I want a compliant post ban rifle...no bayonett lug or flash surpressor.

2.  Will RR put a Wilson style combat brake on this upper for me?

3.  What have been your experiances with this manufacturer?  Reliability?  Robustness?  etc....

Thank you in advance.

1.  Yes, no problem at all.  Since they are all supposed to be milspec, they should interchange anyway.  I tried swapping uppers and lowers between my Bushmasters and my RRA LEGP, and things worked fine.

2.  Don't know.  Kurts Kustom will, or buy the gun through Gun Smoke and they will.  Both have forums here.

3.  My RRA LEGP is easily as nice and as good as my 3 Bushmasters.  I just wish they used the 4150 barrel steel and chromelined, like Bushmaster.  That's the only downside.

You should have no problems with your future RRA upper. It should fit your BM lower just fine. I especially like the mid length handguards. They make the short barrel lok more balanced.

AR,

Do you have a similar combination to the one I described above?

Are the Tactical Uppers on the market yet?  I tried for the last 3 months to get one finally said the hell with it and bought the standard flat-top instead.

I heard back from GSE that the Tactical Upper is NOT on the market yet  :--(

I still have received no response from Rock River yet. I will keep you all posted on what I find out.

I slapped a RRA upper on a Bushie lower yesterday.  No prob.

As soon as the Tac upper is avail I can get it for you.

Castle Arms may be RRA's largest customer.

I was lloking at the Rock River page yesday and was wondering if it is possible to create a "Tactical Upper" utilizing their standard flat top upper with the mid range hand guards and tatical carry handle etc...  You thoughts?

LastDefender you can do it that way if you want, I just liked the idea of the rail and sight being made on the upper.

I myself prefer the versatility of the flat top with a tactical handle which I can remove.  I had RRA build me one with mid-length free float handguards and a heavy stainless steel barrel.  I also have a complete RRA Varmint rifle and love them both.  Go with the mid-length hadguards as the M16/AR15 was not designed to have that short gas tube...too much pressure...the mid-length will give you better/longer service.

Between my friends and myself we have bought better than 20 weapons from RRA and they are currently building me a six inch 1911.  We've never had anything but great service, products, and cooperation.  They stand buy their products and remedy any problems with haste (I know of one AR that wouldn't shoot well beyond 200 yrds and they promptly rebarreled it for the customer).

Very Good people to do business with.

Rich,

Did you buy the pre or post ban?  If you bought the post ban did you have a muzzle brake attached?

I have read other threads about the rail dimensions of the RR uppers not conforming with SWAN dimensions there by making it difficult to mount sights and the like.  Do you have any optics like an Aimpoint Comp mounted on yours?

Were you charged the prices listed on the page you sent?  And lastly, are there any options now you wish you would have gotten that you didn't?

Thanks in advance,
Gary

Gray,

Q:  Did you buy the pre or post ban?  If you bought the post ban did you have a muzzle brake attached?

A:I purchase my RRA LE Tactical in the post ban configuration without any muzzle brake because I live in the Peoples Republic of New Jersey and I did not want the hassle from any LE's I'm not knocking any cops out there, its just the laws in NJ suck. If I where to install a muzzled brake I think the Gunsmoke 4 slot would be a nice choice.

Q:  have read other threads about the rail dimensions of the RR uppers not conforming with SWAN dimensions there by making it difficult to mount sights and the like.  Do you have any optics like an Aimpoint Comp mounted on yours?

A:Ok here's the Deal when I first bought my upper and kit from Sableco.I found  Tactical handle to be very cool looking [IMHO] and well designed. The handle has a small compartment on the right side of the rail for a spare battery, the battery is protected by a screw on cap with O-ring.
I also purchased the post ban Non collapsible stock RRA NM trigger and a HAKKO red dot sight.
Assembly of the Kit was less than an hour on a PWA lower.
As drool start forming on my chin I install my HAKKO sight...Damnit the sight is too long for the rail!
Now I'm bumming because I really like the Hakko sight, the sight is very clear and even with a bright light in front or the side no washout is present.I have never had to turn the brightness of the sight past a setting of 7 the highest is
11. Incorporated into the sight are 4 different reticules "crosshair"  "Circle & dot", "crosshair & circle and 4MOA dot. I like the 4MOA dot and its the one I use the most.
I call Donnie Pridemoor at Sableco and explained to him my problem, I ask him if an exchange could be arrange for an ARMS 38EX if I sent the Tactical handle back. He said sure; just send the tactical handle back and give $10.00 bucks more for the #38EX he didn't charge me for return shipping.
I receive the rail about 4 days later. go to install the rail and the damn thing will only slide on a little more than half way!!! Now I'm  a little piss...but since I'm went to the ACME school of gunsmithing along with Willie coyote it's nothing a little molly grease and a rubber mallet can't fix. As Emerald would say....BAM! BAM!
Now I install the sight it looks great! I release the backup sight OH Sh#T!!!! I can't see through the iron sight..the back of the  HAKKO is to high, so no backup iron sights with the HAKKO,but I have admit I like the sight alot.the Hakko is easy to zero and holds its zero when it is remove from the rifle,I've put over a 1000rds through that rifle and never had to re-zero that sight yet, unlike my Cmore.

Q: Were you charged the prices listed on the page you sent?  And lastly, are there any options now you wish you would have gotten that you didn't?

A: As far as I know his prices are current the only way to know for sure
is ask Donnie, remember he only sells uppers and kits for the lowers, you will need to purchase a lower receiver yourself.
If I had to do it over the again the only thing I would do different is buy an Aimpoint M2. or if my budget was limited I would buy the OKO red dot because it has backup sights and it will fit on the tactical handle like the Aimpoint. I hope this helps

Mil-Std-1913 was revised, and page 4 was replaced on 10Jun99, replacing the page from 03Feb95.  This was revision A.

Base document (Rev NC) - astimage.daps.dla.mil/docimages/0001/93/41/1913.PD5

Revision A - astimage.daps.dla.mil/docimages/0001/80/24/1913.PD8

Revision NC specified the rail width as 0.835 -.005.  This means the allowable range is 0.830 to 0.835.  THE WIDTH HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED.  The only change I see on the drawing is the addition of 0.060 radius where the rail meets the flattop.

I did measure my LEGP (#27) to be 0.835 wide, and my Bushmaster to be 0.832.  Both w/in spec

Well, I just got some $$ Leupold Mark IV rings and they wouldn't fit the Bushmaster. Too loose, rattled around even when bottomed out. I called Leupold and they sent new keepers.

Maybe it's a difference between Weaver and Picatinny that is causing the troubles.
