Good Morning,
A buddy of mine just purchased a RRA LAR-15 Elite Operator2. We went to the range recently to sight it in and ran into a mag seating issue. He first attempted to use a regular grey aluminum mag, would not seat. I took the rifle and mag and gave it a smack and pull and the mag came right out. No click or anything. We then tried a PMAG, same thing, no seating, no click, fell right out.

It wasn't until I pulled the bolt back and locked it open that a mag would actually seat and stay. For the rest of the day we would only get a mag to stay when the bolt was locked to the rear.

Any ideas? Thank you.

Only 30rds or less in the mag, right?
Does it only happen on the initial round?  If so, does it matter how many rounds ar ein the magazine when you insert it into the magwell?

Only 30 rounds in a 30 round mag. I even tried taking 2 rounds out and still no seating.

I did try different mags, numbers of rounds, etc. as my friend is only now learning the Ar-15. I have used M16 style rifles since 2000 so have a bit more experience than him and didnt want it to go un-figured-out.

Was out of th eoffice for a couple days (ARFCOM is an as time allows project, not my real job here).
No idea at this point.  It can often be an issue with an overfilled mag or occasionally new mags with springs that have no set to them....but I've never seen it with less than a fully loaded mag.
It dooes feed fine, but just won't seat in the magwell regardless of round count in the mag unless th ebolt is open when doing so?
