Curious about the weight savings on an LAR-8 Predator HP that will have an A2 stock.

If i pull it and go to an ACE ARFX and then take the free float off and have the machine shop mill out the slots, I think I can get it to about 7.75 to 8 lbs.

Has anyone else done any mods to lighten up the LAR8's?  After carrying the modified 6.8A4 for deer and coyotes, I was wondering about lightening it up a bit for ease of carry.

Steve - any idea on the weight savings?

Thanks,

Ted

I have the standard A2 stocked PHP and I was surprised at how light it was without being unbalanced. For a first AR 7.62 platform, I was expecting it to feel more cumbersome, like my FAL was. That's not necessarily a turn-off since I am biased toward rifles that feel like real rifles when you shoulder them. The only carbine rifle I own would be my FR-8. Technically my G3 would have been classified a carbine as well by length, but it was anything but light weight.

Check the weight on that FX stock...I don't think you'll realize any weight savings by using more aluminum and steel than you do glass-filled nylon.
