I have a Lar-8 that double feeds .I have tried mag after mag factory RR, gun show mags, metric and inch and nothing makes it any better. Anyone have something I can try to get it to feed right. Its my favorite AR and would like to get it running 100% without sending it in for warranty work if it can .

Please describe in greater detail what you're calling a double-feed.
Thanks.

It does different things at different times pop the mag in and it wants to fall back out , other times two will get picked up and try to chamber other times it will catch the spent shell and crouch the spent casing and the two that tried to chamber .tried a brand new mag a friend got for his LR8 from rock river and it didn't help. have two steel and two poly mags on order from you and was going to wait and try them before I send it  to you to see what you can do .like I said love the gun would love it more without the feed problems

Once you try the different mags, please post back and we'll see if that fixes the issue or if we need to do something to remediate it.

I had the EXACT same issue last time at the range, but it only seemed to do it with some old Czech surplus ammo. I had constant doublefeeds with Steyr, Israeli, and other mags. Maybe its ammo related?

It could be.

Ok made it to the range yesterday with the new mags from Rock River . I had put ten rounds in the night before and let it sit over night . those round cycled just fine, then it was back to having to clear jams about every three or four rounds and that was slow firing .  I have tried different ammo and nothing seams to work any better but I will pick up some better rounds and see what happens.

Okay, it appears that I spoke too soon when I said I was only having trouble with mil surp ammo. Went out and shot 190 rounds of Brown Bear today with various mags and the last two rounds would have feed problems almost every time.

Scottsfla, is your rifle completely stock? I know mine isnt, and I may put it back to stock to find out if it's anything that I did. I wouldnt think so because it has been fine up until now, but you never know.

I know ammo can get expensive, but try some brass-cased premium ammo to see if you can replicate the feed issues.

I have had similar problems before, but only with surplus Argentine 7.62x51. It runs smooth as silk using modern (brass) ammo.

Fortunately, my Kalashnikov swallows everything I put in it so I use the Argentine in it.

I have some modern production federal and hornady with brass cases I can try, but it may be a bit before I can get back to the range. Also, it used to work fine with brown bear...

I'm still curious if scottsfla's rifle is stock. Most recent change for me was a PWS FSC30.

Yes the gun is stock other then a Battle Comp. and ACR  with stock buffer and tube . Went out Friday and shot some better rounds, Winchester7.62 and Cor Loc . Gun still jammed . I even tried not rolling the shoulder as much with the recoil to see if I was limping it.

It may be time for a return authorization and letting us take a look and see what's happening.
Please call BJ at 866-980-7625.  He'll try totalk you through it, and then set up the return if still necessary.

Steve what is the best time to call ?

8-9:30 AM (CDST) seems like th ebest for getting through consistently.  Normally you can get through if you're persistent throughout the day as well.

I might be calling tomorrow as well. I picked up some dummy rounds to see if I could simulate the problem at home. I got it to doublefeed and lock up good a couple times with the rifle completely back to stock minus the muzzle brake. It's also beating the crap out of the next round in the mag after picking one up.

Did you call ? did it help ? I have been tied up with work but I will  make time this week.

I did. I got two new mags from them and this saturday I put 130rds through the rifle. Hornady and Federal. Still had 4 feed failures, so I'll be calling again this week.

Were they helpful ? Did they have you do any thing to the gun?

It took about 80 - 100rnds for my 308 elite operator to start cycling correctly.  I've been running mil surp from Aim through it with about 250rnds total.  Ive also ran it pretty wet with slip 2000 ewl during its teething problems.  I've felt that breaking in my RRA was alot like my Kimber.  Very tight and took about twice as long to start running right, but once it was broke in no problems.  ymmv

They didnt have me do anything to the rifle.

As far as breaking in, the rifle now has ~1050 rounds through it.

Mine did this too at first.  It turned out to be sharp corners on the face of the bottom two bolt lugs.  As the bolt came forward, it first strips off the top round.  Then the next round lifts up in the mag and the sharp corner of the bolt would dig in to the brass and slide it forward.  I'd end up with one round about half in the chamber and the other jammed in underneath it.  I rounded off the bolt lug corners a bit and then polished them.  No more issues out of several hundred more rounds.

Just to update, I called this morning and was given an RMA number and was told UPS will be by to pick up my rifle tomorrow. Definately happy with past service I've received and this time has not been an exception.

UPS might be by tomorrow.  We can't control that part of the call-tag process. Assumign we got the request in today (Wednesday) they try to get it the next day, but depending on their routing, etc...it can be more than a single day.

Not a problem. In fact, if they don't show up, I might try finding a box that actually fits the rifle case. I made one out of two that I had laying arond last night, and well...lets just say box making isn't my strong suit.

I think we can all relate to that.  Box-making, gift-wrapping, and sewing buttons back on (in a manner that still allows them to be used as buttons)...lost arts apparently.

Just an update since I've gotten the rifle back from RRA. I took it out today and put 100rnds of Radway Green milsurp through it without any hiccups. I know thats not a torture test, but it definately put a smile on my face
