Here is the answer straight from Steve Mayer: SHOT Show/2010 catalog release in January. It would be great if Black Dog Mags would patner with RRA now to start designing High Cap Mags for their new 40 project. |
| I would love one of these and then put a 357 sig barrel on it. Just imagine a 357 sig with a longer barrel. Or better yet the mid length model with the barrel cut off right in front of the front sight. 12inches about or something like that would probably be about optimal for a 357 sig. Would bet the 115gr velocity would be around 1900-2000fps about optimal for cqb. |

I was told by a Rock River rep that thr LAR-40 takes propriatory mags. I would be interested in a 40 ar based carbine that uses Glock mags. It is my understanding that the Olympic upper is not chrome lined. Anyone with any idea or experience runing a RR upper on a Lone Wolf or Oly Glock lower? Would either lower require modification of the new 22 round capacity Glock factory 40 cal mags?

Rube I posted earlier that Rock River had told me the same thing about the magazines-and that they didn't yet have any releasable information about them. No capacity, no cost each, no availability. I'll be interested in hearing when that is no longer the case and they release these numbers. The Oly system is NOT compatible with Rock River, as RRA makes "Colt-style" pistol-caliber carbines. Glock-fed carbines have very much custom lowers, with the magazine well built for ONLY Glock mags. That in itself makes such lowers incompatible with Rock River uppers. Glock very high cap magazines are just longer than standard-nothing that uses .40 S&W Glock mags should need any modification to run them. Edited to clarify my last sentence. |

It is not compatible with any upper besides Oly uppers as far as I know. The Oly upper is unique, in that it has a special ejector, and it has a small cut-out at the front on the left to allow the Glock magazines to activate the bolt-hold-open feature when the magazine is empty. The Oly is not chrome lined, but is 416SS. No issues yet, and one of my absolute favorite guns to shoot. When did Glock start making 22rd .40S&W mags? I had a 29rd Scherer mag, but it had feeding issues, so now all I am using are the 15rd Glock factory mags. |

RonaldMWilliams (over in the Rimfire and Pistol Caliber forum) makes DI uppers in several pistol calibers that work with standard AR lowers like your ARFCOM lower. He uses modified C-Products 9mm mags or PPS43 Tok mags with an adapter. Best part is... they are actually available NOW and in use by AR15.com members.
Even if RRA ever gets this product to market, I'd use one of Ron's DI uppers and the RRA .40 mags. |
