I'm currently thinking of getting a standard 20" A4, but was wondering if there was any option for a better twist without going stainless. I'd like to have the chrome lined for longer lifespan and durability and also have a better twist in case I want to shoot heavier grains.

This will be my first AR purchase and I didn't really want to have to build it myself (as I mostly lack the knowledge of doing so).

1:9 is the only twist available from us in a chrome-lined 20 bbl.
How heavy of a bullet do you want to try to stabilize?  The 1:9 is easily good for most 69gr loads, and even some heavier (individual bullet style, composition, and profile will dictate comaptibility).
For maximum accuracy, the chrome-lined isn't the best, but for the lngeviy and durability its hard to beat.

Well, I'm not sure to be honest. I'm not going to be shooting any matches or anything like that, but I would like to be able to be somewhat accurate out to 400-500 yards. Unlikely I'll need to, really, but this is my first AR and wanted it to be as close to an all-purpose rifle as possible, heh. Currently lack the cash to get more than one rifle at the moment.

Thanks for the quick reply, by the way.

I think a 1/9 will most likely be a good compromise twist unless you plan to shoot exceptionally light or heavy bullets. A slower twist might work better with lighter bullets and you will most likely want a faster twist if you plan to shoot 75-80 grain loads.

My 1/9 shoots 52-69 gr bullets very well. I recently took my RRA 20" on a prairie dog hunt and was hitting pretty consistently at 500-600 yards with 55 gr. V-Max loads.
