Is the gas system in the Elite Car the same length as a standard AR-15? Thanks

No.
The mid-length system is longer than a CAR (carbine) length system normally associated with 16" barrels, and shorter than the rifle-length gas systems on the 20" (and longer) rifles.  The mids generally are still 16" (some 18" as well), but employ the longer gas system for a better cycling reliability, lower pressure gas spike, less wear and tear on the carrier key and gas rings, a longer sight radius, etc...than the similiarly sized carbines.  Mids have become more and more popular, especially in the last 2-3 years, with all sorts of handguards, rails, etc...now being made for them.

Thanks Steve, I ordered one last week. Should be here soon according to FFL dealer. I'm a firearms instructor for our department and I'm working on putting a policy together which will allow officers to purchase a Carbine on payroll deduction for duty use. If I goes through, (could go either way) you'll be our company of choice. Administration gets hesitant about officers using their own weapons instead of issued ones.
