I have a RRA mid length with a 16 inch barrel.  I have the yankee hill fold down sight and the arms #40 low profile fold down rear sight.  What do I have to do to bore sight this?  Obviously probably center the rear sight up, right?  What about the front sight?  Is there a certain height the post needs to sit at to be bore sighted?  I'm wanting to boresight to 50 yards, but I don't have a range to shoot at with that distance at the moment and I don't know what else i can use to boresight other than just knowing the heights the front post needs to sit at.  I just got my AR not long ago and haven't shot it much so I haven't had a chance to even sight it in.  If you could help me figure this out that'd be great.  Am going to a shooting match this weekend so I need to get this done.

Unless you've got some sort of bore-sighting aid (the device with the grid that goes into your bore, or maybe one of the laser styles), I don't know of any way to tell you how to set your sights without shooting your rifle.  Fifty yards is relatively close...almost point shooting distance, so unless you've already attempted to adjust the sights, you might be pretty close just mounting them and waiting until you're at the range to adjust them.
Maybe one of the other forumites around here may have some suggestions for the both of us.

I don't think you are asking for what you want.

A "bore sight" is used only to get you on paper (within a few inches) at a short distance, usually 25-50 yards.  It is not a substitute for actually or "zeroing" your sights.  The only way to zero your sights is to shoot.

You mentioned you don't have a 50 yard range to accomplish a 50 yard zero.  If you can get to a 25 yard range you can zero 1.25" low.  That is, POI is 1.25" lower than POA.

Center the rear sight and adjust your front for elevation.  Remember to use the small aperture.

I also suggest setting your rear elevation to 6/3 minus two clicks during the zero process.
