Steve,

A know-it-all gunstore owner was attempting to trash Rock River by saying that the lower receivers are made by DPMS. I really want to shut him up by saying that he is mistaken, uninformed, stupid and wrong . But, if DPMS does make the lowers than cudos to them for making a great product.......... Scott

Is there any AR-15 company that makes the entire gun from start to finish? Their own lowers, uppers, barrels, triggers, springs, firing pins, furniture, etc. If that is a way to trash a company then it is a pretty lame attempt. I don't know if RRA makes their own lowers and don't care.   The reputation of a company that makes an AR in my opinion is how they put together the final product, how well it performs and how much they stand behind their product. RRA sure seems highly regarded in all the forums I have read along with other brands.

Ask your hotshot gunstore owner to name the AR-15 that is completely assembled from one company's manufacturing. Then try to let him explain his disdain for RRA. Even in this forum I have seen people brag about their RRA upper attached to another brand lower. More power to them. That is the great thing about the AR, mix and match.

You know, I haven't purchased an AR-15 yet, but based on reviews and actual people here on the
forum, I've made up my mind that it will be RRA. Most likely the Government Model!!henbest advertising.

Someone can have an opinion as why they like one maufacturer vs. another, but I can't see anyone
bashing RRA. To many people have good things to say.

I've heard RRA lowers are same as bushy stock- oh well.  I love the RRA fit and finish.

I personally own 1 Colt, 2 Bushys and 2 RRA rifles in different configurations. I have to say the fit and finish of the RRA is above the others. The upper/lower fit on the RRA makes me believe that they hold to better tolerances than most. Don’t get me wrong, I like my Colt and Bushy rifles, but I have to say I am impressed with the RRA. I post this because I believe that there are but a few companies that make the forgings for the receivers. I really don’t care about anything but the finished product, the store owner I referenced really rubbed me wrong with his pompous statement and I hope to get the straight poop just to let his arrogant ass know that he doesn’t know what he is talking about. Rant mode off........... BTW, excellent point on the above post tvc184.

As Scott has just mentioned above, this is also my experience.  I have the Gov't model and just picked up my SEBR.  The fit of the RRA is much tighter and the finish is excellent.

Frank, you will love the Gov't model.  It is an excellent rifle.  It was my first AR as well, and now I am sick with the dreaded BRD.  There is no cure for it that I know of.  I am ordering 3 stripped RRA lowers as I think it is time to build a couple rifles.  I also want a lower around for when the 458 socom is released.

Welcome to the addiction Frank,

At the risk of stepping on a few toes while dancing along...

I believe that RRA contracts their receivers to Continental Machine and Tool (CMT) with strict specs.  Same manufacturer as Stag, by report.  I know nothing about specs of manufacture. I know nothing about DPMS receiver manufacture, as in who subs for them.

RRA has very high standards.  I bought RRA, recommend RRA, and would buy another in 9mm in a heartbeat if they could ramp up production for complete rifles.   As it is, I am looking at an Oly, or used Pony (Colt).  Dot civs should note that Colt abandoned them years ago.  I do like Colts, really.

I know nothing about who subs for DPMS, but there are many companies, in other industries, who will manufacture similar, not necessarily same, parts for companies in the same sector based on the specifications of those companies, who may or may not compete in the market.  Has nothing to do with the quality of the manufacturer.  I tread lightly here.  I have heard that DPMS quality has improved a whole lot in the last 5 years, so whoever they have working with them seems to be doing a good job.

End of my data base,

Rick

I believe Armalite has the most in house made parts out of all the AR15s except customs. I know they make their own barrels and such. I own an Armalite A2 full size and a Rock River Entry Tatical with the Detachable A2 handle. I love both rifles very much and it is no coincidence both companies offer lifetime warranties ( I like companies that stand behind their products).

Their is no DPMS on a Rock River, CMT is more likely with RR specs.

To agree with the rest, it doesn't matter who makes RRA's lowers, since you're buying their product, if it's out of spec in anyway, it's on RRA.

That said, DPMS has great lowers, so I don't even see that issue.

For the record, I think Oly is the only one that makes everything in house, while I think Oly does fine, I'd take A,B,C,D or RRA over them any day.

IIRC, Bushmaster has their whole receiver subbed (some to LAR), Armalite and Colt machine their own for forgings. Not sure on DPMS.

Manufacturing information is strictly proprietary, but I can say that DPMS has no involvement of any kind with our receiver production.
