1)  is it just me or is the eye box for the reflex pretty unforgiving?  (i need to be at a specific place to see the dot)

2)  the scope mount rail barely makes the reflex sight clear the top turret, which compounds the above issue.

3)  i'm thinking a 45 degree mount would be better for something like this

4)  but i've decided that on a rifle this heavy, i'll just skip using a reflex sight

5)  do you guys know of a mount that will fit my taurus tracker M627 revolver?

That's typical for a small windowed sight. That's why most prefer receiver offset. It's quicker to acquire correct face placement to fire.

And since you mention the rifle being heavy, that small sight isn't going to add much weight difference. Especially, when its faster to use it than turn your scope to the lowest magnification to shoot an up close target.
