I have a 2X7 scope sitting around that I have decided to throw on an AR, but I can't decide which mount I need. I am looking at the deluxe PA mounts, extended and regular. I generally do not quite get my nose on the ch, there will not be any buis, just the scope. I am thinking the standard, any help with this? Thanks.

I have a Vortex Viper 2-7x32 that has an eye relief of 3.7-4 inches. I am running no BUIS and have a flattop TRX Extreme rail. I also was wondering what mount to get. I was leaning toward the extended mount for more flexibility but don't want to order it and find out its too big. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well I just pulled the trigger on ordering the Ext mount for my vortex viper today. After shouldering the AR and looking through my mounted Prismatic which is mounted right over the charging handle, I feel that the Ext. mount might suite me better. I think I should have plenty of space to move the mount on the rail to find the sweet spot for me considering I have no BUIS mounted. I just need to find someone to mount it all up for me since I have no way to perfectly align the cross-hairs and rail. If someone has a simple way to mount up a scope w/o a lot of tools please let me know. I don't even have a gun vise so that is why I can't do it myself. Can't wait to see some Pics of yours mounted up Abull.

I really agonized over which one, almost went with the extended. One of the reasons I went with standard is the same one you had. I have no buis and thought I would have plenty of room to set it up as needed. I also have a Troy TRX on it so it has a continous top rail. Yea, we can post and compare I guess!

Soxfan, got my mount today and already have it on the rifle. I can say for sure you went the right way with the extended. If I had it to do over again that is what I would order. The regular works, and I still ahve a couple of slots to go forward, but what you are getting will be the best mount it looks to me. But as far as the mount itself, looks great with a nice finish and looks strong. Clamp nuts are pretty rough to turn but they work. The Vortex has a little more eye relief than I thought it would and I guess I have my head just a little farther forward than I thought. Overall I'm happy and it will work fine.
Except now I'm thinking I need a good 1X4 for a different project..... |

Thanks for the heads up Abull. I just received my EXT mount today and will dry fit it this weekend. I have to say it is a nice mount for the $$. The finish looks fantastic and also the machining. I have to find a way to permanently mount the scope myself. I have no bench rest or vice to level my AR and the scope. If anyone has any tricks to mounting a scope on a flat top please let me know.
