Major differences?

My gen 2 is brighter than my gen 3, and the base on the gen 3 is removable, and it takes aimpoint mounts.  Base on the gen 2 is part of the body, and not changeable.

also gen 3 has a kill flash where the gen 2 does not .

Gen 2 and Ge n3 both have the removable base. The Gen 3 has a longer front that is threaded for the killflash.

So if I don't need a killflash, saving $20 and going with the Gen 2 is the smart move?

I'm going to run it on a Daniel Defense offset mount.  Just to verify, the Gen 2 can be mounted on a LaRue mount?  I might eventually drop the coin on the LT-724 offset mount to replace the DD mount.  Just want to make sure the Gen 2 will work with that LaRue mount.

It will.
