I just received a 40176 upper. I have noticed that the dust cover latch is hitting the bottom of the ejection port. I have already tried changing out the cover with one that has a slightly different latch size, but it still hits. Do you have any suggestions for eliminating this problem? I am otherwise satisfied with the product and your service. I will be ordering more from you . Thanks.

I don't understand what your saying?

When you push the dust cover closed, the cylindrical portion of latch on it hits the bottom edge of the hole in the receiver.  You have to force it closed. Then when the bolt moves by and opens it, the cover only opens about 1/8". As the bolt is released and locks into battery,  the shock causes the cover to open fully. Its almost like the ejection port isn't low enough on the bottom.

Is this a little more understandable?

it sounds like you're saying that the ejection port cover is not functioning properly, due to the spring loaded bearing being misaligned to the bottom of the ejection port instead of the top of it. thus causing the ejection port cover to jam as the rifle cycles, not opening the port cover completely.

Do you have photos you could post of this?

thanks

Just don't see that problem very often. That would start to get irratating if you shoot a lot.
Ejection port pin holes in the receiver could be just a touch high (ETA: or low) or top (ETA: or bottom) of the ejection port might not be cut just right.
If you already changed out the port cover, I would not see two port covers being off. That cylinder just barely fits in there pretty close.
Try an IM to the PSA Rep here and send them a pic.
It's most likely covered under their warranty and they will take care of you.

On the back of the dust cover, the side that you can see with it open, there is the latch. The bottom of that latch hits the bottom edge of the ejection port in the receiver. If I knew how to post pictures, I could show the rub marks on the receiver edge from the latch. It will close with some pressure but does not always pop open all the way when the bolt travels by it. Say you were chambering a round from a fresh mag, the cover would open just a little bit when you pull the bolt back, but then open fully when the bolt goes into battery. I am not sure how to find out who the PSA rep is or how to find out, that's kind of why I'm in this forum.

Go to any thread  Or in the "where's my order" thread where the PSA Rep has replied. On the bottom of their post, click on the "IM User" botton and it's just like email.
Copy and paste this thread... http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_301/279103_PTAC_complete_upper.html ... in there so they can find it.
Send them your issue and order number and they will respond to you in a day or so. I think their PSA Customer Service Reps also gets their IMs.

Thanks, I sent an IM. I just compared this upper with another one. With rough measurements using a tape measure,  it appears the mounting points for the dust cover rod are 1/16" lower than the known good upper.
